Super king mattress recommendations

Hi,

Our mattress is 10+ years old and now I'm perimenopausal (yay!) I'm desperate for a super king bed and mattress but would really like recommendations before I spend £££.

Our stair-case is narrow, so I'm thinking either 2x european singles (maybe a Simba mattress as they do EU sizes?) Or a zip link. I tried a pillow top mattress in a shop today and it was lush but they didn't do any zip link.

Where is good for mattresses? Experiences of Simba?

Mattress budget £1k-2k. Ideally £1k-1.5 rather than the top end.

Our mattress right now is very firm and I definitely want something softer and plush feeling, but still with support.

Ta! :)

I love my John Lewis mattress

I bought a hybrid mattress from Dusk in April - super king but came rolled up. You have to let it expand for a couple of nights but it's absolutely gorgeous.

I'm on the hunt also! I've read mixed reviews about simba- mainly bad!

A friend has a John Lewis one. I think it had a 40day (or similar) guarantee that if you don't love it, they'll take it back. I'm not sure if that scheme is still valid, but worth looking into.

I have hypnos mattresses in my house which i rate. Go to john lewis and try them and others out. The firmness level needs to be tested. I have an ortho type which is more firm.

John Ryan zip link 100%

Have a look at their website. Their mattresses are amazing

I got this one and I love it. Super comfy and comes in an easy to transport box! Vesgantti 5FT King Size Mattress,... www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B076PCTM1H?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I have a Hypnos. Took me ages to make a choice because I didn’t want to make a bad decision but no regrets so far. We’ve had it a couple of months

Warren Evans. Lots of knowledgeable staff and you can try them if you can get to a showroom.

We have the same, and have had it a year. Very comfy!

We also had a ln Eve previously, which was great - also came rolled up, and had layers to help control temperature.

Ikea's VESTERÖY is great (comes in medium or firm). I've got 2 x singles on a superking bed. No need for a zip, they stay in place with a fitted sheet.
Apparently you can sleep on the mattress for up to 365 days and return if not happy.

NameChangedForThis2025 · 10/08/2025 08:13

@NegroniMacaroni do you not get a gap at the head or foot because uk singles aren’t as long as super king?

@Copperoliverbear oh I didn’t realise Warren Evans were still going, I’d thought they went into administration years ago. Will have a look.

If you’re anywhere near Princes Risborough in Bucks you can go to the showroom at the Hypnos factory and try them out. They will make to order.

Needanadultgapyear · 10/08/2025 08:23

Harrison Spinks dual season zip link is what we have marvellous. Winter and summer sides made of wool and hemp and guaranteed for 30 years. Not cheap, but will probably see us out.

isitmytime · 10/08/2025 08:38

@NameChangedForThis2025 ikea do standard sized mattresses. I have a vagstranda in a superking and it’s the best mattress I’ve ever had. It comes rolled up so easy to manoeuvre and it fits perfectly.

A little gap but the duvet hides it. I had considered getting some upholstery foam and cutting it to fill the gap at the head end but ended up not bothering.
Annoyingly, Ikea's singles used to be longer and there was no gap but nowadays they seem to be UK single size.

NegroniMacaroni · 10/08/2025 08:47

Forgot to say, the main reason we went for the VESTERÖY, beyond price and comfort, is that it's not as tall as a lot of other mattresses (20cm). I don't like the feeling of being so high up, get scared I'll fall off lol (yes we could've got a lower bed but wanted the storage space).

Copperoliverbear · 10/08/2025 13:44

@NameChangedForThis2025one of the branches in Camden closed but they have reopened it now they’re back on their feet. X

I have a Vi-spring. Expensive but worth it.

Favouritefruits · 10/08/2025 14:37

Simba hybrid pro, it’s easy to get up stairs as it comes folded and rolled vacuum packed. It keeps you cool all night long and is like sleeping on a marshmallow

jaundicedoutlook · 12/08/2025 23:52

Naturalmat is great. We’ve also got an Ikea one in a spare room which is very good and was decent value.

Jollyjoy · 12/08/2025 23:54

I have a Levitex one, would recommend.

Mikkymik · 14/08/2025 11:43

Simba feels very comfortable in the beginning but it sags after a few years. All memory foam mattresses have that issue.

I've now bought a 100% latex mattress from latexsense.co.uk, it's extremely comfortable and sag.
