just had new worktop fitted with upstands going on today. i’ve been told that you shouldn’t have upstands running straight across the back of the cooker. apparently it’s best to leave a gap so that heat can escape. google says the same thing. does anybody have direct experience of this please ?

What are the upstands made of?

is it a gas hob?

I had upstands, with a metal panel behind the hob.

I’ve replaced it with glass in a recent refurb.

I think you are supposed to have either metal, glass or tiles on the wall behind a cooker. Any kitchen fitter should know that.
