I want to repaint my front room - it's currently got a dark red accent wall that feels so old, and beige/taupe walls. Sofas are dark brown, one is brown and red - I was thinking of recovering the cushions but keeping the dark brown arms/frame. So I feel like the dark brown would pretty much go with anything. But - my curtains are also dark red and I really like them, and replacing them would cost more than I want to spend really at this point. Am I going to have to stick with something very neutral?

I personally love a deep red and light blue together. Something like this?

Not sure if this counts as a neutral, but a very pale pastel pink could also work, depending on the red. Or for something dramatic, what about one of those colours like Farrow & Ball Hague Blue or Stiffkey?

For more inspiration it might be fun to look at paints which are the same red as your curtains and to see what colour pairings they suggest – Benjamin Moore is particularly useful because they've got thousands of shades so you'll nearly always find a close match.

Thank you, that Copenhagen Blue is a lovely colour. I've been looking at dark teals and blues and greens either side, similar to Hague Blue. It would be a quite dramatically different look in those room but I think I might like it!

Have been enjoying looking through Benjamin Moore, I hadn't come across them before so that's a great resource.

Yeah, I only heard about Benjamin Moore because of an American friend. I really want to actually try the paint at some point, people do rave about it.

I always love other people’s dramatic dark rooms but it feels like a leap committing to it full time. Have fun decorating!
