Help with choosing a stairs carpet!

We have had this stairs carpet for 15+ years-it has been great-it seems to cover every shade of crumb, fluff and biscuit that's been dropped on it and is really forgiving. It's sort of low squashed loops in various colours (not the technical term, I'm guessing!)

It's got a bit baggy and saggy now though so I want to replace it. I've just been to look in the carpet shop and the chap told me most people have plain carpet on the stairs now-and showed me 20 rolls in various shades of cream or grey in just a pile carpet. He said if you have cats, don't get loop/texture. We have two cats who have barely touched the stairs carpet, but have really shredded the lounge pile carpet!

What is this stuff I've got called and can you still buy something like it?!

This is what the cats have done to the (5 year old) normal pile carpet.

The stairs carpet have lasted far longer, despite being loop!

No advice but also following with interest as I’d like a loop carpet runner for stairs and have been advised against it because of the cat!

I really like the carpets in your OP but also have cats

They have lasted for nearly 20 years with an assortment of cats (usually have 2/3), so I think I will be best off going for the same type of carpet again rather than the ones they're suggesting having seen what my cats have done to that!

We went for a vivid stripe and I love it. It hides everything- we only have to hoover every few weeks!

My cat has ripped my stair carpet to shreds!
I am now taking it off and sanding down the stairs and varnishing. I’m not buying more carpet for him to rip up again.

This looks similar:

They've got loads of flecked loop style carpets (and stripes too) so clearly not the case that everyone's getting plain twist pile!
