How to arrange furniture in reception room

The room is on an upper floor. It's very light , gets later afternoon/ evening sun.
Radiator on wall facing windows.
Built in cupboards either side of open ( not used) fireplace.
We will be watching TV and also ( I'm ashamed to say) eating evening meal on our laps .
I don't want the room dominated by a table and I'm looking for a small extendable table that could be positioned so that it's possible to sit at and enjoy the view down the road.
Three adults using.
W here to put TV, where and what kind of seating ?
Help !!!!

Thank you .
Was thinking the only place for TV would be on wall opposite fire place .
Don't want to post pics of how it as moment as the furniture in the room is mainly there only pro tem.

Ah right nice to have those windows.

I love the fireplace and the cat, what a cosy room, I’d totally see myself somewhere like this. not helpful

Thank you @Riverswims 🙂.
I'm so enervated by the heat that I couldn't be bothered to tidy up or disturb the cat before taking a photo .Blush

I would take down the mirror thing above fire and put the tv there.
leave sofa where it was
move the big chair to the space on the right of the sofa
get rid of the low unit under the windows and if must put an extendable table there and one of the small chairs either side

@Thelonelymug thanks for input !
Feeling unwell at moment but will post better pics and response when full functioning😀returns !

Following OP I have the similar room. Is your kitchen in the room behind and stairs opposite door to living room?

limetrees32 · 13/07/2025 19:51

Goodness me @B0D , it's all as you describe!
There's quite a bit in the room at the moment that I'm not planning on keeping in there .
I'm currently thinking of a small table under the window where the chair with the black legs ( which I'm planning on doing in a different colour or stain ) is .

spooky eh!?
i currently have a small dining table in front of the window nearest the door as that area is a dead space otherwise.

I have an L shaped sofa in the corner short bit against the kitchen wall and long on the chimney breast . ( I don’t have a fireplace ) it’s too big but I’m always making do …

My plan is to change the side the door hangs on. It will block the light switch but I can live with that. I think it will improve the room no end and make better use of the wall that backs the kitchen

limetrees32 · 13/07/2025 20:25

Ooh , I'm going to see if I can put the floor plan up.

We're an upper flat in a house divided into two flats.

Ahh not quite the same I see. You anre all on one floor ?

limetrees32 · 13/07/2025 21:55

There are two floors, stairs opposite lounge door lead up to bedrooms.
