Painting advice please

Just bought a lovely table for my hall - old possibly oak - possibly early 20th century .Planning to paint it .Must add here it cost me£10 !
Complete novice
Do I need to strip it ?
Manually or with application of a solution?
Recommendations please
Also paint
Rustoleum French Chic Farrow & Ball Annie Sloan all possibilities .
Whats best ?
Not looking for perfection just a reasonably decent looking table to sit in my hall .
Easiest method for first attempt

Chalk paint doesn't require any sanding first. Though if the table is a bit rough you might want to sand it smooth anyway.
But really it'll depend on what the current finish of the table is. Some older varnishes will bleed through new paint, and if it's a waxed finish that needs sanding back. Or you could use a sealer primer first.
Lots of options depending on what state it's currently in and what you want it to look like at the end.
