I want to get our sofa and armchair reupholstered and would like recommendations on the best type of fabric to use. It’s in constant use so would need to be hard wearing. I’m looking for something in navy but which has a pattern as I don’t want it to look too dark and stark in the room. Any recommendations gratefully received.

There are lots of choices but you really need to look and feel the fabric in person as quality varies considerably. Are you sewing them yourself, because if not you need to take advice from your upholsterer.
Whereabouts in the UK are you?

I can recommend Warwick fabrics. I’ve had a chair & sofa covered in the biarritz & plush velvet fabrics. I used upholstery fabrics uk & ordered multiple samples beforehand. They do upholstery grade flame retardant fabrics so meet regulatory standards.

Just to say most upholstery fabrics are tested for wear - it's called the Martindale rub test and . . .

Between 25,000 – 30,000 rubs - These are ideal for upholstery fabrics that need to withstand children, pets, or frequent visitors.

Would love to know how you got on OP as I’ve just asked a similar question.
