Would you have a black sink?

We are in the midst of extension and new kitchen DH is saying he fancies a black sink. I cant imagine having anything but a white porcelain sink. We are creating a modern kitchen with a brass quooker tap but can’t get my head around having anything but a white sink? Thanks in advance of any advice or experience 😊

We have a black sink. I think it looks nice.
Be aware that water marks show more. It does look nice as shiny and clean though

Kitchenbattle · 03/07/2025 21:18

Yes we’re getting one and a black quooker tap…i can’t bloody wait!!

SemmaLina · 03/07/2025 21:20

Nope , couldn’t cope with a dark sink
we have a white sink and a nickel Quooker tap

I have a black sink in one of the bathrooms, it looks lovely when it's clean but it gets limescale marks on it all the time, which is annoying.

SuperGinger · 03/07/2025 22:12

I hope you don't have limescale.

camelfinger · 03/07/2025 22:14

No, our water is too hard so it would look grey.

NoWeaponsOnTheTable · 03/07/2025 22:15

Yes we had one put in our new kitchen in our old house. Never again! It showed every mark and was difficult to make it look clean.
Maybe depends on the material, ours was some sort of composite.

MsNevermore · 03/07/2025 22:17

No.
I love the look of them, but from my time as a domestic cleaner, I’d never have one in my own house.
They show up every little mark, you have to be careful what cleaning products you use on them, and if you live in a hard water area, it won’t look truly black for very long - turn a weird dull grey colour with a dodgy splotchy appearance where the limescale deposits gather.

UnPetitCochon · 03/07/2025 22:18

I have one, it looks nice. We have a water softening unit, so no white marks. Except when you forget to top up the softener tank before it runs out, then it looks terrible! Also, not sure what ours is made of (composite maybe?) but where the hot water hits the sink (and boiling water- we have a Quooker) it takes the sheen off so we have to use food grade oil on it to keep it looking good.

ScottBakula · 03/07/2025 22:20

I have one at work , it's black plastic and veey square , it's a bugger to keep clean even though the water is soft .
I'd never have one at home , mine is stainless steel.

catsand · 03/07/2025 22:21

No. Had one a few years ago, the water marks were awful, it never looked nice no matter how often I cleaned it. Never again.

Foodoverload · 03/07/2025 22:44

I have one and a glass black hob.y thought process was it would be seamless and look smart with my black counter top. When clean looks amazing. But it shows every water mark and the hob dust. Not getting one again. This one is lasting a long time.

We have a crushed granite dark grey sink, we love it. Doesn’t show marks really. We previously had one and really wanted another one when we replaced our kitchen.

we think it looks great.

SwedishEdith · 03/07/2025 22:59

No. I'm in holiday accommodation ATM with one and it's horrible. I can't really make out what's in the sink when there's water in there. I don't think it would ever feel clean.

Chasingsquirrels · 03/07/2025 23:00

I've got a black composite kitchen sink, been in 5.5 years.
Hard water area, haven't got a softener.
Yes, it you don't clean it then you get water marks - but so different to the stainless steel one in the utility.

I'd have a different style kitchen if I redid it (or in reality moved somewhere that needed a new kitchen, because this one won't need replacing for years), so wouldn't have another black sink for that reason - but I'm quite happy with it.

afaloren · 03/07/2025 23:16

I’ve got one (it came with the house) and I hate it. Never looks clean and we have soft water!

LevelUpDown · 03/07/2025 23:20

I love mine tbh, can’t say I’ve had any issues with marks and everyone warned me about it

Mossstitch · 04/07/2025 00:28

No, one of my sons just bought a house with one and cannot get it clean, not just watermarks but what looks like tea stains that won't come out. I like my white butlers sink, still looks brand new after 12 years.

putitovertherefornow · 04/07/2025 00:30

Not in a million years. We live in a really hard water area and it would look awful.

wohmum · 04/07/2025 00:34

We have one and it looks lovely - surprisingly doesn’t seem to get watermarks even though we’re in a hard water area . It’s got a slightly textured surface , from Wren kitchens. It’s been in 5 ish years and still looks great

we chose an undermount one so it’s not quite so obvious as a sink / draining board combination

borderlaise · 05/07/2025 17:31

We have one, not our choice it was here when we bought the house. I don’t like it. I think black is cheap looking and ours is also covered in limescale as we are in a hard water area. Looks rubbish.

autumn1610 · 05/07/2025 17:33

I have a black sink and I wouldn’t get one again. Marks very easily and difficult to remove the marks. I’m in a soft water area too. Looks nice from a distance with my lovely brass tap though 🤣

WaitedBlankey · 05/07/2025 17:34

Got one, it looks nice and is easy to keep clean.

A family member installed one.
3 months later it was uninstalled as it never looked good.
As others have said, it showed every water splash.
