Has anyone bought a leather sofa recently?

I am really struggling to find one I like! I have some 'must haves' but am starting to feel I must be really picky?!

Actual normal leather, not leather with a 'suede nap' that you can't wipe with a damp cloth (DFS, I'm looking at you)

Somewhere between 200-230cm for the width for the sofa (plus a shorter one)

Vintaged/antiqued brown/tan rather than bright orange or really dark brown.

Square arms/low block feet rather than ones on really high legs.

One I can actually go and sit on somewhere!

It feels impossible to find somewhere.

I have one of these, though I recognise it doesn't fit the 'low block feet' requirement. However, I'm posting it anyway as it's nice leather and I've had mine 10 years and it still looks good. https://www.johnlewis.com/halo-groucho-large-3-seater-leather-sofa-dark-leg/riders-nut/p110488033

Thank you for sharing! That's a lovely colour. I want lower feet and lower square arms really more like this:-

www.dfs.co.uk/julius/ius14agad

But the shop has said any sort of liquid/water on it will leave a mark so you can't wipe it (seems to be a bizarre choice for a sofa fabric for me) and when you buy their special DFS treatment, it won't get stains anyway. They normally recommend the treatment is used 4 times a year, but with this fabric it would need to be done much more often!

I just want normal leather which you can wipe with a damp cloth if you get it dirty!

I'll see what else Just left have.

I'll see what 'John Lewis' have...!

I guess you’ve seen the Habitat Daly? But not sure if you can sit on it before you buy these days

G Plan Kingsbury - we have it in claret leather. We've dropped all sorts on it, damp wipe, good as new.

Doyathinkhesaurus · 19/06/2025 19:36

Long Eaton Sofas made mine to exact specifications. We chose the leather to fit the room and it is high enough to ensure I don’t make ‘the noise’ on standing! It’s sooo comfy… and the perfect colour.

Shinyandnew1 · 19/06/2025 19:54

Thank you for the replies -the Habitat sofa is the closest in style to what I'm looking for but I want to be able to sit on it first!

We’ve got g-plan sofas really comfortable Seattle and the Jackson in Cambridge leather beautiful quality.

We didn’t intend to buy one. I had one for 20 years and it was great. We went shopping two weeks ago and came home with one. Corner shaped and has a head recliner full back, feet rises and lumbar support. Literally you can lie flat and sleep and it has phone charger too.

Took a risk. Ordered blind.
Argos Salisbury - Tan. Good reviews. Worth a look. Arms arent square but recommended and even better with the 20/25% off deals.

i can’t believe it’s months on and I still can’t find something I like!

Thank you to those who already replied-the ones people kindly linked to either haven’t got block feet, are ones I can’t try to sit on before spending £3000 or are way out of my price range. I need a 3/4 seater and a 2/3 seater.

Has anyone seen anything that looks just like this but is actual leather you can wipe clean, not some bizarre nubuck suede that you can never get wet!

DFS Julius

Ooh, I thought I'd looked at all of the Next ones! I like the Stamford but the back is quite high. I wonder if that's new??

Thank you!

I had the Julius in tan, i always wiped it with leather wipes & it was fine. Kids spills didn’t particularly stain it, (well until the pens) I would just get it if you like it??

Really?? All the info (and the lady in the shop!) said it can never get wet and every water mark would stain it forever. It seemed such a pointless fabric to make a sofa out of?!

Do you still have it?

Following, have the same dilemma. Love the French connection hackney in DFS but can’t see it, sit in it in store. Madness! And DFS online don’t respond to queries. Also like the made.com sofa in John Lewis but it’s out of stock. Off to look at next.

I sat in this today! It was a lovely colour (tan) and had a low back and square arms but it was a bit too low to sit in which was annoying (old person knees!).

The shop had the Michigan in leather which looked nice but doesn’t appear to have a 4-seater!

Check out this STOCKHOLM from IKEA.
Here’s a little more information:
https://applink.ikea.com/tY8M9r9M4w--00245050--gb--en

this is the best leather sofa!

Shinyandnew1 · 28/01/2026 10:20

@Guavafish1 thank you for your reply-I have seen that one. It was nice but didn't have the square arms or block feet I'm looking for.

Search continues! Really, I just want DFS to make Julius in actual leather (not a weird suedey fabric) and then I'd buy that!

I tried to email them to ask, but couldn't even find a way to speak to them!
