Are black taps / shower dated already?

We are refitting our bathroom and need to make a decision on shower and taps.
I was thinking black, but is that dated already?
If not black, then what?

We are in a hard water area but are getting a water softener fitted.

Thank you!

Yes. Go stainless or nickel.

Jibberjabba · 16/06/2025 22:13

No still plenty in bathroom showrooms

Tooteefrootee · 17/06/2025 07:02

They are horrendous to clean, so I wouldn't regardless!

ScribblyyGum · 17/06/2025 07:03

Dated.

And dated. White is popular for a reason.

PilatesPeach · 17/06/2025 07:10

I find the black look in a bathroom quite oppressive

NotMeNoNo · 17/06/2025 07:14

Chrome plated fittings (on brass) are classic for a reason; they polish up nicely, are durable enough to cope with all the cleaning and descaling and go with everything. Any coloured finish on brassware will wear off or not be able to be cleaned.

Yes, dated

skippy67 · 17/06/2025 07:31

Dated. Chrome is timeless.

White taps and shower? I don't think I have ever seen those?

Thanks for confirming what I suspected.
Bugger, dh is set on black.
We currently have chrome and I am a bit bored with it.
(we are not replacing them because I am bored though, we are replacing / refitting the bathroom as it is leaking through the kitchen ceiling and in order to repair we need to rip half of it out)
Will have a look at nickel and stainless, that sounds good. (although I am rather intrigued by white!)

Stainless steel or chrome will last far better, the coloured coatings scuff quicker

If you like them, have them.

I think the bathroom we’re going to have is probably straight outta 1998 but it’s my bathroom so I don’t give a shit.

You are Anastasia Gray and I claim my £5

MH0084 · 17/06/2025 11:55

It’s your bathroom. Do what you like.
Just if you go to black, have a high quality one and remember not to use harsh chemicals to clean.
I think they still have a place. Maybe just not that white tiles and black taps look. It can be a bit more sophisticated than that!
