I had one of these before foam mattresses were a thing, just make sure it’s deep enough.

Also worth looking at the loft beds then you have stuff underneath

ah so a normal mattress was fine! good to know. wondered if it was a weight thing.
The ceiling is also eaves slanted so a bed too high will mean she cant sit up ! Wasnt a problem when she was tiny, but now at nearly 5ft8 its all seems so small!

My teen has the slakt bed in a small room. Works fine with an Ikea mattress. I think sprung not foam but get an Ikea one to be sure it fits.

BertieBotts · 15/06/2025 20:02

You can put whatever mattress you like on it. It just says that because it doesn't come with a mattress.

We have it for DS2 and it's quite high compared to a normal bed and feels a bit rickety and creaks. DS1 has a single Malm which can also be used with 2x large drawers and that is more sturdy (and cheaper).

BertieBotts · 15/06/2025 20:03

Oh yes OK - good point, it does need to be an IKEA 90x200cm. Standard UK single size mattress is 10cm shorter.

TeenToTwenties · 15/06/2025 20:08

Foes the storage go all the way under the bed or only half way?
DD had a non IKEA one and it only went half way.
If so they a normal bed with trundle drawers underneath may give better storage.

TeenToTwenties · 15/06/2025 20:10

I think only half way.
I'd just get a normal single bed, on castors.

houseofcake · 15/06/2025 20:44

Thanks all, she currently has a normal bed with drawers underneath but its all such a jumble and she cant actually pull them out far as her room is that small! So wondered about a bed that lifts up but will that just be a bundle of mess!
Mumsnet collective hive mind help!

Reading with interest as we own the worse sized room ever and it's getting my boy down.

DoreenDo · 16/06/2025 11:05

I've just read terrible reviews about this bed and the mattress coming off. Does anyone have it? The Ikea Slåkt? Thanks and sorry to hijack.

BertieBotts · 16/06/2025 22:29

We have the Ikea Slakt, the mattress has never come off, but it is quite a thin mattress we have.

The Malm storage drawers go all the way under the single bed.

I've no idea how deep the Slakt drawers are. But Ikea usually have diagrams on their website showing the size of everything.

Sounds like you need that youtube/tiktok feng shui guy DearModern :D he is a genius for tiny spaces.
