Help! Need to decide on electrics for loft conversion

Looking for advice on electrics, especially lighting, in a loft conversion. I had an initial chat with the electrician today but it’s tricky to work out in terms of furniture placement and so on.

Has anyone put wall lights in a bedroom either side of the bed? I am wondering about this but not sure how much more it will cost or whether it’s easier to carry on with bedside lamps to give more flexibility about furniture placement.

And does anyone have mirror lighting in their bathroom? We are having a shower room and have been asked about mirror lighting - I have no clue as we’ve never had it before!

Anything else we should think about?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

The mirror lighting is really useful as it stops the steaming up. We have a mirrored cabinet and inside it has a socket to charge your toothbrush.

Wall lights are nice but you would need to decide on position. If you decide to go with bedside lamps you will need to decide on socket placement so you need to choose where to put the bed either way.

We had sockets put either side of our bed, so this kind of fixed the bed position as your wall lights would, but there isn't really anywhere else the bed could go (despite the room being massive!) so it doesn't really matter. What does matter (and I didn't know beforehand) is that sockets are now placed higher than they once were, so the sockets are behind our bedside tables, which makes them quite hard to access, if I'd known, they could have been placed further apart (it would have been fine if they were lower, like in olden times).

What you definitely need in your bathroom is a shaver/toothbrush socket. You never know when you'll start using an electric toothbrush if you don't already!

Thank you! Some good points here. We’re definitely getting a point for charging toothbrushes, which the electrician suggested hiding in a vanity unit.

I think I’m inclining towards maybe not wall lights. I like the idea but we may end up having to move the bed slightly - we’re currently having it in the middle of the room to avoid the eaves and leave another area free for wardrobes but not sure if we’ve made the right choice. I’m just trying to maximise the space for furniture placement at the moment!
