Is this broken plate a goner?

It's Whittard so not easy to replace.

The draining board got crowded, I was tired, it fell in the sink and bang!

Does any glue put this back together again?

Superglue maybe but I wouldn't want to try on case it falls apart while there's food on it.

CeraUnaVolta · 11/06/2025 16:15

I’m sure glue would stick it back together but I don’t think I would trust its strength or security for serving food on it again. Perhaps look up the Japanese method of kintsugi - fixing things back together with gold or silver so that the repairs show and look beautiful. Then use it decoratively rather than practically. It’s a lovely plate!

Sgtmajormummy · 11/06/2025 16:21

For all practical purposes it’s a goner.
You could look on chinasearch.co.uk for a replacement.

Autumnlife · 11/06/2025 22:58

Might be lucky and find one on eBay or vinted

Davros · 12/06/2025 00:35

Do some Kintsugi

McCartneyOnTheHeath · 12/06/2025 00:38

Donate it to a mosaic artist, they will be very grateful!

@NewspaperTaxis found these OP very similar looking apart from the glazed rim

Are kintsugi plates usable?

Davros · 12/06/2025 09:59

@Geneticsbunny good question, I don’t know but they look nice

Yamadori · 13/06/2025 17:08

I'd say yes to plates being usable with care.

Davros · 14/06/2025 08:42

Probably wouldn’t put them in the dishwasher!

sesquipedalian · 14/06/2025 08:50

If the plate is particularly precious to you, you can get it mended by a china restorer - (Google china restoration/china repairers) but it will cost you!

WorkingNotTwerking · 14/06/2025 08:50

I'd take this as an opportunity/excuse to buy some coordinating plates. Or, if it's a special plate, another special one to replace it.

heldinadream · 14/06/2025 10:06

Personally I'd smash it up further and use it for drainage in the bottom of plant pots.
That would be its 'next life'.

Thanks everyone! Those plates on eBay are dinner plates, larger than the one I pictured (and I didn't give its dimensions). An actual replacement is on eBay for about £100!
