curtain lining quote seems expensive

I have been quoted to have some curtains made. fabric is £35 /metre but they are quoting me £42 / metre for the lining which is a plain cotton.
They are not interlined and there is no black out.

This seems very expensive to me. I struggle to understand how the lining is more than the actual fabric.

Is this normal?

Seems unlikely - lining is cheap. Are you sure it isn't the quote to make up the curtains including lining? Usually curtains are priced per drop, ie per width of fabric in the curtain. But £42 per drop would be cheap and strangely specific.

Can you get a quote for them to make up and you supply the lining?

Have you queried the price? That would be a first step. Could it possibly be the total ppm of show fabric and lining? Curtain lining wouldn't be that much.

I'd expect it be be less than £10pm unless they are including some kind of makeup cost in the price of the fabric which seems unlikely. Query it, maybe it should be £4.20.

Thanks for your thoughts - I have queried the price per metre of the lining fabric and they say that is what it is. It's an interior design shop

i thought it was odd when they asked me to select the lining colour from a fabric swatch book. i have never been asked to select lining fabric before.

I thought what OchreSail said would be the solution - £35 a metre for fabric, £42 if you include the lining. That would be reasonable.

I would check the make up price doesn't change if you supply your own lining and go that way. Even if you want coloured linings they are freely available. Brilliant long standing and helpful trade/retail supplier Merrick & Day selection here

If you know what fabric you want I’d just get quotes from elsewhere to compare. That does seem expensive. What are they charging to make the curtains up?
