We are struggling with how to layout a living room. It’s a decent size but there’s a supporting beam that sticks out opposite the fireplace that makes it quite awkward figuring out where to put sofas and TV. We ideally don’t want anything in front of the window as that’s where the only radiator in the room is and want seating for 6 people. How would you layout this room based on this floor plan?

Do the six people all have to be able to see the TV?

It's hard to say without being there, but you could try getting a big sofa to run along the right hand wall (looking at the floorplan) between the corner and the protruding beam. With the TV in the lower left hand corner. Maybe an end table among that right wall, between beam and door.

Then you could get some more seating in the upper left hand corner, although they wouldn't be able to see the TV if it's on the other side of the fireplace. A couple of armchairs or a "snuggler" (1.5 seater) or a small corner sofa, if such a thing exists?

Thanks so much @zaxxon that was one of our options but just felt that the sofas were just too far apart so would almost have to shout to have a conversation amongst ourselves. Considering a left hand corner sofa which would come out in the middle of the room annoyingly but then maybe using that to our advantage and having a living room zone and a playroom zone for my LO

I’d have on of those long narrow tables that have your electrical sockets brought up to the height that runs from the beam towards the window and push a sofa up to it

So I would prob get a big curve or l shape sofa . And put away from all the walls .
this means you can walk in the room to an open space . Then I would put a nice table or big nest tables in the middle . Tv
would go top left prob on wall or on a mid height table. Then when that lots in you can sort out extras .
this leaves air and space around radiator. You can get 6 people on a l shaped ( with back) easily . But you also have space for an up right arm chair too if necessary this type of sofa you can just see . And tables like this with the space so you can walk into it from the door .

I'd consider getting the radiator moved so that you can use the space along the window wall for either a long corner sofa along the right and bottom (window walls) ad you look at the picture, or 2 large sofas in the same places.

Or, if you don't use the fireplace then having it blocked up. This is what I did in a similarish dimensioned space (amidst other building work).

I have sofas on the 2 long walls facing each other, a chair in between and the tv unit to one side of one of the shorter walls.
