Hi, very boring question, but ...
Every single toilet seat I get; within a couple of months, the hinges and 'metal' fixings are corroded, flaking etc. The water is very 'hard' in minerals where I am, i.e. it stains the shower tiles/grout with an orange/pink residue. I will pay for the right toilet seat and have been looking everywhere, obviously for stainless steel metal attachments or brass/copper but every time it is just a plating that corrodes away even though the product may be described as 'stainless steel' it is not.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to any brand where stainless steel is just that, not plated and the entire metal attachment is just that ... pure metal, not just a part of it. I could get plastic but most are white or black and I want a wooden toilet seat. Any tips would be much appreciated.

I have the same problem. Worse now in my downstairs toilet; the new “chrome” taps can only be cleaned with a soft cloth and water, the instructions state that anything more harsh will affect the finish. Very handy in a hard water area where normally descaler is your best friend. The only solution I’ve found is to wipe metal bits clean and dry whenever you remember. Drives me nuts the way things aren’t made to last any more, don’t even get me started on the new bathroom furniture which appears to have been made of cardboard. It blows when it gets wet which of course it will, it’s a sodding bathroom. Two replacement plinths later, I now have a spare in waiting for the next time…..

We redid our bathroom 30 years ago with fittings from this firm and the fittings are still fine - we have very hard water too. They were expensive - though I don't remember their prices being quite so outrageous as they are now! Here's an example..

I share your frustrations - loo fittings that can only be cleaned with a mild detergent - so stupid. Mirrors that corrode. Taps that can't cope with limescale and have ceased up.

That Aston Matthew’s toilet seat is very nice. But for that price, I’d expect it to poo and pee for me!
