Is this about right?

I am afraid I haven't any reference point for this so I am wondering if anyone can help!

I have been quoted £500 to both box around a small area of piping in my bathroom and to retile behind my cooker. This excludes the cost of materials. The surface is currently old and uneven so will need levelling before putting tiles up.

i get the feeling the tradesman wants to do this work (both jobs) in 1 day. Given that he is quoting £500 (£250 per job) does that seem right for one day? Or even a long one day? I'm trying to get clarity on how long he is planning to be here.

if it is £500 a day am I right in thinking that sounds rather dear!? 🤨

In my experience it sounds within the realms of acceptable price. As a non-tradesperson I don’t find it helpful to look at hourly or day rate that much. I think it’s all about skills and supply and demand - you have to cost things like insurance and the like if they are professionals.

Sounds about right price. Don’t get hung up on how long it would take (1 or 2 days). Your are also paying for their experience and skill in addition to their time.
