Regret my wallpaper choice - help me feel better!

As the title says really! Decorating my baby’s nursery and now that it’s up I hate the wallpaper. It was expensive and so can’t justify changing it. It’s sad to dislike something we put so much effort into to choosing. I wish I was more gifted at interior design :( wish I’d gone for blue stripes instead.

Any tips / advice very welcome!

It’s gorgeous. Very classy and on trend but you could change the feel of the room over the years with artwork/ curtains/ bedding etc. Think you’ve made a great choice.

Zezet · 13/05/2025 10:36

Oooh, I think it's VERY pretty. I can see why you are a bit overwhelmed when you have just put it up and there's no furniture yet and all your attention is on the wallpaper. But I think it's lovely and it will be less "in your face" once you've done the entire thing.

From watching interior design masters I think vertical stripes elongate a room and horizontal ones make it look wider. Since this room is already quite high, I think you may feel like you’ve stretched it out too high and that’s what it looks like. My advice would be to install a picture rail about 3/4 of the way up, and paint the top 1/4 the same colour as the ceiling to lower the height a bit.

SummertimeFeelingFine · 13/05/2025 10:42

Yes that is a good idea. Would look very chic, too.

ConcernedFriendgbvc56 · 13/05/2025 10:43

This is a munks and me one isn’t it? I think it is beautiful and I love it. It is a lively choice and once there’s furniture (and a baby!) in it’ll look lovely.

fwiw I really like it; neutral, not babyish and can be accessorised with pictures etc
once the furniture is in and you’ve got some pictures on the wall it’ll look even better

4pmwinetimebebeh · 13/05/2025 10:49

I love it! Looks gorgeous

dollyblue01 · 13/05/2025 10:50

I think once you get some pics up and baby stuff you won’t mind it at all.

LivingLaVidaBabyShower · 13/05/2025 10:51

Its perfectly fine - i was expecting something much worse!
Its easy to live with and You'll reddcorate in 4 or 5 years.

Honestly get some frames and pictures on the wall and it will be fine

heidi345 · 13/05/2025 10:53

I like it too. I would definitely change the light switch and other electrical fittings and add lots of white (lampshade etc) and maybe a big plain mirror and shelves.

Woollygreymittens · 13/05/2025 10:57

I love it! It looks classy yet relaxing and friendly

Thmssngvwlsrnd · 13/05/2025 11:00

I love it too OP. I agree with PPs that you'll feel better about it when all the furniture is in place. Good luck with your baby 👶

Campbellcarrotsoup · 13/05/2025 11:07

Also I think I would change the light switch to white or silver but I think room will look lovely once it's full with baby stuff

YouOKHun · 13/05/2025 11:09

Give it a few years and it will be covered in bobble-headed stick person drawings, smears of what you hope is Marmite, small applications of play doh, the stickers you thought you’d hidden and various bumps and scratches of unknown origin but all at toddler height. At least try and enjoy its pristine-ness!

StrongandNorthern · 13/05/2025 11:10

I love it!

Cuppachuchu · 13/05/2025 11:15

I really like it, much nicer than blue stripes.
Give it time.

ballroomblue · 13/05/2025 11:17

I think the mistake was putting up on every wall - or that's how it seems on the photos. It's too overbearing. It would look lovely just on 1 or 2 walls and the rest just painted plain to co ordinate. There is nothing wrong with colours at all.

Rosesonroses · 13/05/2025 11:18

I really like it. If you’re not keen on it, what about panelling the bottom half of the room and painting that a plain colour so the busier wallpaper is just on the top half of the room?

If not I’d go for white furniture, a mirror in the corner and some prints on the wall to break it up a little bit. I think it looks nice though

INeedABrewPlease · 13/05/2025 11:22

I think it’s absolutely beautiful! Great choice.

Paaseitjes · 13/05/2025 11:45

It will look really nice one the furniture is in and there is a bit less wall. I painted my bedroom mumsnet blue. It looked terrible until the wardrobes were back and now it's great

IamEarthymama · 13/05/2025 11:58

Oh I love your wallpaper!
It is gorgeous 💖

Dutchhouse14 · 13/05/2025 12:09

I like it, it's calming and neutral.
Love the wavy stripes!
Once you have furniture, some pictures and perhaps shelving it will break it up.
I always double guess my decorating choices too, I think it takes a while to get use to a change

LibertyLily · 13/05/2025 12:45

I love it and - being very timeless/calming - think it's perfect for a nursery without being babyish or predictable...definitely the right choice imho.

Agree that it will look even lovelier once the furniture and decorative pieces are in!

Dalmatian0 · 13/05/2025 13:31

Thanks for the kind and constructive comments! Going to let it sit for a while and get the furniture in before making any big decisions. Thanks all
