Any tips on hanging a rug on a wall?

I'm nervous about hanging pictures above my bed in case they fall on me and kill me in the night 😱 No amount of solid fixtures would make me feel secure.

I've therefore decided on a very lightweight rug. But how would I hang it?

Anyone have any experience to impart ?

You could have a plain wall, as most people do. Or something not in a heavy frame.

That would save you from the prospect of a rug falling off the wall and suffocating you in your sleep.

How much does it weigh?

I got thick cotton tape and sewed it with strong thread to the back of the rug.

Then I attached “eye” hooks to the tape at the same distance as screws (nails might do in some walls) on the wall.

If done well there’s no way that’s ever falling down.

If it did then I’d rather a rug than a picture frame or a shelf.

Think how heavy shelves full of books are. All you have to do is distribute the weight and you’re golden.

I’ve nailed a rug up with brass wall pins, which is quick, easy, low damage and you can use them to pin the bottom corners in place too. The rug weighs 3kg, it’s very secure.

In a different flat I hung a smaller rug with Command Strip hooks but the wall pins are easier and way more reliable.

A patchwork quilt could also work, and would be lighter than most lightweight rugs.

Really helpful replies - thank you.

Except of course NeverDropYourMooncup who has introduced the idea of being suffocated in the night as my rug drops on me 😱
