I’m really stuck on deciding if I should purchase a sofa and small table or table and chairs for my garden, it’s only a small garden, I’m not even sure something like a table and chairs would fit comfortably, we have decking where we want seating I’m just undecided, I have an almost 1 year old if that’s any use in opinions, what does everyone think is better? Before anyone says any tbh ing Yes I know it needs a clean up

I have a picnic bench (the ones you see in parks and pubs) and my DC are always making dens with it and love eating their lunch on it in warm weather. I bought it because it was the low maintenance option compared to sofas/tables/chairs. It’s stayed out for 5 years and is still going strong.

We have a small sofa / armchairs and also a small table and chairs in our garden. We definitely use the sofa more than the table. Occasionally we might have dinner outside and use the table, but we use the sofa almost daily in summer. Especially when our toddler is playing outside it’s nice to be able to sit on something comfortable and watch them. You could get an outdoor coffee table to go with the sofa and then you’ve got the best of both

I'd go for a sofa and coffee table. We have both and sit on the sofa the most. Perfectly possible to balance BBQ food on your knees to eat

We have a sofa, two armchairs, two padded stools that all fit round a big low-ish rectangular table, so you can sit at it and and eat as well as relaxing on the sofas / armchair. When the DCs were younger we had a table and chairs as outdoor sofas weren't a thing then. But we eat outdoors at every opportunity, breakfast, lunch, dinner when the weather permits as we have patio doors from the kitchen so it's easy, there is no way I'd be without an eating table outdoors, I don't want to balance my plate.

Thank you, I think I am leaning towards the sofa

We definitely use our sofa more. We can sit/lie on it for hours on a sunny day then move to a basic picnic bench to eat, before returning to the sofa. Maybe have a look at the ones suggested that you can get a dining table to match so you have best of both worlds.

We have a corner sofa set with adjustable height table. At the higher level, it’s the perfect height to eat at. I tend to leave it at that height and not lower to coffee height, as even when lounging on the sofa (I do it a lot in good weather as it’s in a sun trap corner of garden) I find that table height fine for putting my cup.

It’s the best of both worlds for people without space for both. Ours has 2 stools too. I counsels but an extra dining armchair if I wanted one.

Mine has ceramic table top - seems durable and not at risk of breaking or heat shining through glass and burning rattan or the fake wood tops which can also scorch if sun shines through a glass at the wrong angle.

Get a sofa and a table that you can raise and lower so can dine or coffee

Table and chairs for the decked area - a couple of armchairs on the grass.
