How do I hang curtains on these windows?

I’ve recently moved house and our bedroom windows face a road, so we’ve bought these H&M long length lined curtains to help with the noise (and warmth).

The issue is that the windows are really near the ceiling so not sure how best to hang them. I want a pencil pleat effect but not sure whether to use a track or a pole and where to affix it?

A pole will be no good as there’s not enough room. Also, pencil pleats wont really look sharp with those curtains as the fabric is quite soft - the best you’ll bet it soft gathers. The track will have to go on the top of the window frame, then gather the curtain heading and put the hooks at the top.

Curtain track just about the windows frame below the ceiling. Make sure your use loads of hooks to keep the curtain from looking saggy and uneven along the top. My tracks were fitted by John Lewis.
In one place they are in the 1.5 cm gap between the top of frame and the ceiling ( brackets bring them forwards so they hang away from the window by the right amount). In another room they are mounted across the very top of the frame as there is zero headspace above it.
You can choose different types of track, can you get a local provider to measure you and explain options?

You can get ceiling mounted curtain poles

Thanks all that’s really helpful. @Soontobe60 - soft gathers would actually be my preference compared to sharp pencil pleats, so that would be fine.

And thanks for the tip on the hooks @DreamingOfASilentNight . The frame does meet the ceiling moulding at the top, but sounds like track at the very top of the frame or on the ceiling might work best.

Appreciate all your advice! I’ve only ever had blinds and shutters before so I’m a bit of a curtain novice!

I have difficult windows, in that the frames are built pretty much up to the ceilings, some are bays, ceilings are very high, I need decent weight curtains and linings (and therefore tracks with strength to them) due to draughts, I want a pulley system too etc. None of those things on their own are an issue, but together they mean that I have limited choices.

I'd get in touch with a fitter and ask them to come round and see what they'd be able to install. And then buy whatever tracks they'd recommend. If you cant find one yourself, a local curtain maker may be able to suggest someone as they might work in conjunction with each other.
