Do new houses still have window sills?

I’m looking at blinds for the bedroom windows and all the pictures seem to have a frame around the opening in the wall rather than a protruding sill. Is this usual now? If i want good blackout should I switch? Do you just saw the sill of and put a frame around the opening like a picture frame?

Mine has windowsills 🙂

Mine has them. They're shit and too narrow for a standard sized cat, though.

The blinds and curtain poles are fixed to a strip of wood the builders put above the window so everything overlaps by just enough to not be affected by the tiny, tiny bit of sill sticking out.
