Shutters MDF or Hardwood

Hi.
Can anyone shed some light on the best material for window shutters.
Iv had quotes from hilarys and shutters up. Ones for MDF shutters and other is hardwood.
Anyone have shutters in their homes and which material did you go for and why? Feeling a bit lost with the choices.

Hardwood is always a better choice for anything. MDF is full of formaldehyde, which off-gasses, can make you ill and is a known carcinogen. Hardwood is naturally stronger as well. It will last longer. Plus you have the option to stain it rather than paint it if you like. MDF is cheaper. That is the only advantage to it.
