Which of these two Farrow and Ball colours is best?

I am need of some advice on the two colours we’re deciding between to decorate the downstairs of a Victorian terrace. My DH is holding up the carpet, cork tiling for the hallway and the wood the storage and shelving will be built with. I’m strongly in favour of one and he’s strongly in favour of the other, but don’t want to bias opinions!

We’re planning on having the area ‘drenched’ as in all walls, woodwork, cornicing and ceiling are to be painted the same colour and finish. The colour on the left is Shaded White and on the right is Skimming Stone.

This is causing a bit of consternation currently so I thought Mumsnet may be able to help.

the one to the right of the flooring.

springintoaction321 · 11/03/2025 14:10

I like the darker one

Shoezembagsforever · 11/03/2025 14:10

D you mean the one under DH's armpit?

That was for @Dextybooboo

A vote for the under armpit colour

AllTheChaos · 11/03/2025 14:12

One to the right of the flooring. Lovely!

dairydebris · 11/03/2025 14:12

Under armpit one.
The other has a bit of a green tinge, usually I love green but not here.

Firstshoes · 11/03/2025 14:12

The lighter one

Foxgloverr · 11/03/2025 14:12

Skimming Stone.

HundredPercentUnsure · 11/03/2025 14:12

With an added an 'oh but they're just so totally different' in a posh sounding voice exaggerating the vowels, for good measure 😆

Nodlikeyouwerelistening · 11/03/2025 14:13

Under armpit colour vote here too.
The other one is nice but quite a bit darker and could look a bit too much when fully done.

Shoezembagsforever · 11/03/2025 14:13

@dairydebris that's what I thought. We're selling it and I'm worried buyers will be faced with a green-drenched space.

I think the darker one But - why not have white doors/skirting boards?

I don't think it would look great all done in that grey...

We did have grey built in cupboards in dining room but when redecorating, painted them white (and the walls in Borrowed Light - F and B) and they looked 100 percent better.

I prefer the darker one, Shaded White. It looks like it has a slightly greenish colour which is also in the cork tile. It complements the other shades better and looks softer, whereas the lighter colour is more stark against them.

Alifemadelessordinary · 11/03/2025 14:14

I have shaded white kitchen cabinets and it can definitely pull green in certain lights and I'd say it's much to green to be a neutral. With that in mind I'd go for Skimming stone.

Another vote for armpit!

Shoezembagsforever · 11/03/2025 14:15

Thanks all so far - I need to make a spreadsheet!

😂😂

As per usual I pick the opposite to everyone else.

I think go with what you think best OP is the only way

Nodlikeyouwerelistening · 11/03/2025 14:15

Oh well if you’re selling it definitely the lighter one. It’s more inoffensive and less dependent on taste, it’s and also easier to paint over if they do decide to redecorate.

That's a very good point.

Under armpit colour

heldinadream · 11/03/2025 14:17

If you're selling, why on earth are you faffing about with expensive paint? Cheap white or cheap pale will do fine!

Onlyonekenobe · 11/03/2025 14:19

Under armpit.

If you're selling, I'd go for a cheaper dupe.

And here is the photo!

The one on the right. The other is too dark for all over. Bit grungy and browny green.
