Building an extension - where to start

I want to do it all myself. Not the actual labour, but the design, building regs/planning etc. No idea where to start. Anyone done this? Or can point me in the direction of some useful websites? Thank you!

Sorry, I know it’s not what you asked for - but I really wouldn’t recommend doing it by yourself. Why do you want to? It could be a false economy in terms of money and will take a lot of time.

Planning can be complex and you have to ensure everything is in accordance with building regs. I tried to do planning permission for a really simple extension a few years ago after we got messed about by an architectural technician and it was refused as I didn’t apply under the right scheme (which was in no way obvious and we already had plans drawn up). I’d strongly recommend finding either an architectural technician or an architect and taking it from there.
