Help me style my blue sofas!

I've finally got my dream blue sofas, but I'm now stuck with the rest of the living room! They are a deep blue velvet. Carpet is a light grey. I love the look of bright colours against it or really patterned cushions but then I'm also thinking neutrals with it will last better as I may get bored of bright colours. Furniture wise, we need a new tv unit and again I don't know what goes best with the blue. Dark wood? White? Anyone with blue sofas care to share what colours you have gone with?

I don’t really understand colours very well and why somethings work, I just know what I like when I see it.

When I’m stuck, I find colours from around the house, (other cushions, piece of fabric, clothing etc) and put them in the room/on the sofa etc.

As I go back and forth during the day and keep seeing the colour in situ - I find it helps me decide whether it gives me that Just Right feeling.

Regarding the furniture, I’d get a white cloth and spread it under the TV to approximate some white furniture in that area.

If you don’t spend a fortune I’d go with your gut and get some coloured stuff - you can switch it out when you get bored or fashions change.

I find plants really finish a room and go with anything and everything. Bigger plants are easier to look after, although a lot of my plants started small.

Anything goes with dark blue really. I love bright colours. And pattern.

We've just got a new sofa too, which is on the lighter end of forest green and have redone the living room. We have an existing navy blue armchair, which isn't ideal but has to stay for the moment. We switched out our black tv unit for an oak one, and it looks much better.

In terms of adding colour, I've used cushions, curtains, throws, rug, footstool, potted plants in pretty planters, a bunch of brightly dyed dried flowers, light shades. Basically anything that can be changed relatively cheaply and quickly if I get bored of it. I shop on a budget and picked up lots of things from Dunelm and various online shops. New TV unit was from Daals.

In terms of your tv unit, I don't think a dark wood is the way to go. Something lighter to contrast with the dark sofa would look better.

If you like colour, then add it! I think colours would look great with your new sofa!

Use Google images to see how other livings rooms with blue sofas have been styled.

Happy lounging!

I have pale grey walls, dark wood, mustard/ochre accents. Works well (I have a blue sofa).

Thanks all, they are all really helpful suggestions! I think I'll go and have a wander around Dunelm tomorrow to get some ideas.
