Can anyone help me please. I want to get new carpet in the living room what is the best type to get that doesnt go flat and matted. Made the mistake of getting a nice soft one last time it looked terrible after it had been down a month so flat dont want to make that mistake again. Still want a soft carpet though. Has anyone got a carpet that still looks good a couple of years later? Photo of current carpet nice and soft where the sofa covers it all flat everywhere else.

I'd go for a loop pile carpet. E.g. https://designer-carpet.co.uk/33884/gaskell-wool-wembley-arena-statue

The more tufts per cm, the better a carpet will be in a high usage area.

Loop and pile flattens ridiculously from my experience.

This carpet has held up well for us over the past 3 years in high traffic areas

A twist pile is a good all-rounder. As someone else said, the tighter the pile (more tufts per sq m) the less space the tufts have to flatten down. A loop pile won’t flatten but the tufts can get pulled and run.
