Don't know if that's the right name for them but I think they've been here since the 1950s. I hate them. They're in the porch and the downstairs loo and go under the washer too- it was a shower room but now a kind of mini utility with washer and shelves over it and a loo. Pootility ?! Anyway. It's a tiny floor area. Would a piece of Lino lie ok over the tiles or would I need a piece of hardboard too? I have no tools to cut hardboard but could potentially borrow some. I want to brighten it up. Paper and new floor and paint but low budget ! Anyone done this ?

You need to put something down first, otherwise the shapes of the tiles will gradually show through.

I think you can get get a roll of formy type underlay than you put down first. (But that my be for laminate floors).

Lols pootility room.

I haven’t put sheet vinyl over tiles (I have a different subfloor issue). But in case it’s helpful, I do keep looking at Colour Flooring Company vinyl and their installation info says if you can’t use a self levelling compound for some reason, you can put their vinyl down directly

I'll have a look at the underlay stuff as if it was foam type, I could potentially cut it if I can find one of the Instagram videos I have watched with hacks on how to draw round the loo etc

You can fill the grout lines dips with this product - it's easy to use, there's a few youtube videos to guide you before you start - but I did it with no experience.
