Media wall dilemma

our living room is not big and we have a gas fireplace on one wall with a beautiful stone surround. The tv (65 inch) is currently on the opposite side of the room and wall mounted. We quite like the idea of setting it in a media wall style mount with some shelving on one side. The sofas would have to be facing each other with the fireplace at one end and tv at the other. Would this look ok? We don’t want the tv over the fireplace, it’s too big and too high but don’t want to lose our fireplace either so this is only solution we can think of just not sure how it would actually look. Would we need some built in storage around the fireplace to balance it? There’s no chimney, it’s a flat wall unfortunately.

How are sofas positioned at the moment?

Our fireplace and TV are on the same wall, but we still had sofas facing each other. I hated it, it looked like a waiting room and it was awkward to watch TV once you had more than 2 people.

Personally, I wouldn't put TV over the fireplace, I hate that look. Is there way of putting TV in a corner by the fireplace? That way your sofas would look at both.

Our sofas are currently facing each other with the fire a one side, tv on the other and it works ok. I think I’m worried that building the tv into a unit will make it look and feel unbalanced so can’t decide if I need a built in look at both ends or would be better to just keep tv on wall with a tv unit underneath. The fireplace has a mirror over it at the moment. We can’t put the tv to the side of the fireplace because it’s too big to fit comfortably it would be a squeeze and also the sound travels up the outside wall to the bedroom above but this doesn’t seem to be an issue with other wall.

Don't get a media unit because technology changes quite often.
