Skylight, is this normal?

My builder has installed a skylight in our kitchen see pictures. It is not finished yet (paint to be done) but wondering why there is this large black frame all around, will this be "peeled off" / "cut" at the end?
thanks a lot

Do you mean the window frame? Or am I missing something?

putitdown356 · 20/02/2025 18:01

I think thats the frame? Unless im not seeing something?

AlleyRose · 20/02/2025 18:01

What colour are you expecting it to be?

RIPVPROG · 20/02/2025 18:02

If you wanted it to blend in more you should've gone with a white frame

Lolakath19 · 20/02/2025 18:10

we asked for this flat roof light with 3 separated windows

How else would a window stay in place if not for a window frame? I'm confused

Yes that's what that looks like ? The glass has to sit in a frame ??

Lolakath19 · 20/02/2025 18:11

We did not want any black framing all around

That’s what the picture shows.

Do you have another picture from somewhere that shows what you were expecting?

Lolakath19 · 20/02/2025 18:13

I think the picture has been uploaded now sorry

What colour frame did you want ? There has to be a frame ?

Lolakath19 · 20/02/2025 18:17

If you look at the last picture there is no black lining all around the windows. The frame sit on top of the roof I think rather than on the side of the cavity

No lining

I would guess that the third picture you uploaded is a rooflight in a flat roof and so the frame is outside the 'opening'.
In your situation you have the wall of the building and a small Parapet wall which prevents the skylight from 'overlapping' the opening.

I think that the photo of the look you were expecting shows the frame inset so that the ceiling hides the edges. You can see the black bar across the centre of the glass.
If you talk to the builder, they might be able to do something to hide the black edges. Even putting some white tape or beading there should do the trick.

It is more normal to have the frame sitting within the cavity. A window does need to have a frame, so I believe what happens with a look like your secondly picture is that they plaster board it out to hide the frame, and are more likely to use a thinner frame to facilitate that.

Essentially, in your setup, they would make the hole smaller on the inside. I suspect it is probably too late to do that now though.

Im sorry it’s not how you wanted it. Did you show your builder/architect the picture of the finish that you wanted?

Lolakath19 · 20/02/2025 18:34

Adding some more picture, the black lining all around is very thin (see 2nd pictures). Yes we did say what we wanted..
