Does this wall design look silly?

Does this look nice or silly? The mirror is what I have and I'm trying to decide how to not make the big wall look so empty, if anyone has suggestions that would be great

It looks like the opening scene of casualty. The camera zooms in on the precarious nail shifting out of the plaster behind the mirror. Then cuts to later in the day when the family are getting ready to watch the big game. Mum sits down in the middle of the sofa and wham, decapitated by the falling mirror. The vibrations tip the other round shelf things sideways and the other members of the family are put into comas after the small plant pots hit them on the head. Dad comes in with a bowl of popcorn ready to sit down and sees the scene before him "nooooooo!"

I think it's fine although your drawing is very symmetrical but I imagine the real thing would have different plants so would look less samey. You could go bigger with the two side pieces I think. I quite like the circular theme personally but any shape would work.

Honestly there's no 'wrong' with interior design. The important thing is if you like it.

It's clearly a basic 3d render and not a real room. I think op is using to help her visualise the walls and proportions for wall pieces.

I would go less symmetrical- put the mirror to one side and some long shelves maybe 2, to the other side. Books plants ornaments on the shelves.

wider pendant shade too. And a rug

Great now I'm going to be terrified when I sit on the sofa 😂

I'd actually watch Casualty if they had sensible storylines like you have outlined. 😁

The thing is although rare, it's entirely possible and that terrifies me haha

I think it would look better you pulled the sofa forward and put some bookshelves behind, it needs some depth to add interest.

They look like portholes on a ferry. I’d put either art work or large multi frame photos either side instead. The Range and Dunelm have some nice ones.

Much nicer

Hollythedogwalker · 15/02/2025 00:00

@Makemydaypunk has nailed it, I’d go with this look OP.
Fwiw, I had a heavy, statement mirror over my sofa for a while which looked great but was replaced with a lighter alternative due to my anxiety re: freak decapitation risk!

Sometimeswinning · 15/02/2025 00:04

Not loving circles either. Rectangles and bigger are needed above your sofa.

Crispynoodle · 15/02/2025 00:08

Looks ok to me but I would paint the wall a deep indigo then put some cushions on the sofa to match

Portholes was what struck me too.
