Egyptian cotton walls and Timeless panelling

Our hall is fairly square. In a bungalow so lots of doors leading off. Panelling on the lower third of walls. It is quite dull when the sun isn't shining so a bit dubious about EC on the walls. Timeless is our favourite goes with everything paint. Is there enough of a contrast between the two colours to use together. EC on panelling and T on all walls? I do like white with EC but for some reason feel a bit nervous using it in the hall.

Timeless is quite creamy and yellow based, whereas EC is a bit more purple/grey based. I'm not sure about using them together. Have you got EC anywhere else in the house? Does it work in your house?

R u me? Like seriously. I am doing this exact thing now. I live in a bungalow. Doing panelling and have these to colours in mind. I had to check ur user name incase I had already written the post 😂

I already have these two colours with the EC on the panelling in my bedroom and I love it. A good contrast between the two. But I have found that EC is different in different lights. I’m about to do the same in my living room this weekend. And I think it will be okay becuase of the light. But I’m against it in my hallway.

like u I have doors off and not many lights. So I think it will not be a good combination.

@Viveladonut no I don't have EG in the house. Never tried it. I had T all through my last home. It's more of a white cream. I thought EC was more a griege colour.

@Andtheworldwentwhite great minds think alike eh! I wondered if EC might be a bit dark in the hallway that's why I was asking.
Maybe I could paint the panelling EC and the top 2/3 T.
Any chance you could post a photo of the contrast between the two colours?
Good luck with the painting this weekend!

In the downstairs, I have Timeless on all walls and Egyptian Cotton on doors and skirting boards. I find it a nice contrast.

A friend of mine has just used the same two colours, and it looks great. EC can look more cold grey in a north facing room but anywhere else it's a lovely neutral.

Yup. I’m doing the second coats today. So will try and get a good photo when done.

What about Dulux Summer Linen, or Almond White? Both are creamy beigey neutrals and go nicely with Timeless.

I’ve used Egyptian Cotton in 2 properties and wouldn’t use it again because it comes up so different each time.

lingmerth · 16/02/2025 11:26

@OnePearlFox 🤦‍♀️just when I decide on a colour scheme you throw 2 new colours on the mix😂
I'd decided EC will go on the panelling and the majority of the walls would then be timeless to avoid the 'is it isn't it' situation!
Do you paint the skirting and dado rail EC too? If so is it the same paint as the wall in between?

Well. I painted my living room room today in both of these colours. And hated it. I’m not sure why. But the timeless looked green in the light of the living room. So have repainted it all in the EC and I love it.

lingmerth · 16/02/2025 23:44

@Andtheworldwentwhite oh no! All that hard work. I had Timeless throughout my old house and I never noticed any difference between the rooms.
Amazing how light/or lack of changes colours.
Glad you like it now it's redone.
