What are your recommendations for kitchen splashback?
I had thought of a stainless steel one but I read they are hard to keep clean re streaks.

I absolutely love ours, it's glass and we had it filled with a paint colour of our choice. It's very easy to clean (and keep clean) and doesn't show up streaks etc. I would imagine stainless steel would be very difficult to keep clean though. My friend has a quartz splashback which is stunning but was way out of our price range!

I have glass, have had tiles in the past and found scrubbing cooking stains out of the grout really tedious. I love the glass, so easy to keep clean and when I'm doing a big meal like a roast or baking etc I can write timings with a chalk marker on it to keep me organised.

I bought a glass-fronted picture from a DIY store and used that as a splashback. We just attached it to the wall behind the cooker and then I sealed it at the bottom with silicone. I am very pleased with it - the only thing now is what to do with the rest of the wall! I am in two minds whether to paint it or try to tile it. I bought stick on tiles from amazon but they were totally rubbish quality so sent them back. Aluminium panels was another thing we looked at but the colours are all very primary.

I’m going for tiles. Have tried to like the look of glass and don’t. Have been advised by several places that quartz can burn if saucepan lids lean on it as a splashback. Love the look of nice tiles so as it’s a relatively small space treating myself to some lovely tiles that work out way cheaper too. Tile company provides grout protector.

You can get tiles that are attached to a roll (not sure of the right words) so I think we’re going to go with that after cracking our glass one at Christmas! You can get some really lovely Mexican style ones.

Can I ask what you mean by 'we had ours filled with paint colour' please?
I have a glass one but it's just attached to the wall with clear silicone at the top and bottom and steam gets in behind

You can DM if you don’t want to advertise. We had SS units at work and a certain product was used to keep them smart .

Baby oil is supposed to be good for stainless steel.

I have a brushed copper splashback and it’s very easy to clean.. A wipe with a damp cloth does it.

Glass personally. We've had stainless steel and tiles before

Stainless annoying with streak marks , tiles get food stains on the grout!

LaundryFairy · 26/02/2025 21:08

we had a very similar deliberation when we redid our kitchen last year, and in the end went for a single, extremely large porcelain tile that covered the whole backsplash area with no grout lines. It wasn’t cheap (came in a special crate from Spain!) but it looks amazing and is extremely practical and easy to maintain. If you are interested, tile came from below (ordered through tile retailer in uk):
