Is It a bit eccentric? What type of room would it work in?

Someone i know (not me) is considering it, but I don’t know what to say because it’s…not great. Trying to think of a way to say definitely not, but in a diplomatic way…

Yeh it's not nice

ConstanceM · 02/02/2025 01:08

Sorry Op, I think it looks pretty naff. Look at some designs on Valuelights cos these look a real rip off. I don't understand it from any aesthetic basis, form or structure. It's a very bland but trying too look edgy.

Oh good. I was worried I was missing something!

I can probably cobble a response but be gentle with it. I’ll find some alter move suggestions at a similar price point.

You could say it might cast some odd shadows?

AnSolas · 02/02/2025 11:48

Is her room a jungle type room design (eg green vine wallpaper with parotts) ?
you could go with it being a key peice of the room desigh so too fashionable and will go out of style and will need to be changed in a year or less??

PricklyLikeCactus · 02/02/2025 11:51

It would work in a jungalow style design with big plants and a seventies feel, but even if I were doing that look I would choose a colonial teak fan version of this light!

POTC · 02/02/2025 11:58

I was intrigued to see what a lightning solution might be as I bloody hate the lightning in storms. Very disappointed to find it's actually a very odd looking lampshade 😂

Offcom · 02/02/2025 13:09

Yeah it’s more of a lighting problem than a solution isn’t it

HettyCletter · 02/02/2025 13:44

Sklum have lots of similar style (but nicer) light fittings - maybe point your friend in the direction of their website?

Thanks everyone. I’ve just been chatting to her on WhatsApp and saying that it’s just too big for her modest sized living room and it will unbalance the whole space. Mentioning also about the strange shadows it will cast.

I realise now why I find it so unsettling (and hideous) - it appears to be from a horror film set.

I think she thinks it’s “arty”, so have sent her the Sklum link @HettyCletter She’s getting inspired 🙂
