I want to paint a shiny silver bed frame in a more interesting colour. I’d really appreciate your thoughts and experiences.

Just that, really. Thank you 🙂

If it is shiny silver, are you sure it’s painted and not bare metal, either stainless or chrome? Either way it’s going to be difficult to get paint to stick to it. I would advise getting a couple or 3 acid etch primer aerosols, this of course then needs to be done with a mask on and in a ventilated space.

Nonsense. Paint sticks perfectly fine to metal with little prep. Degrease, sand lightly by hand, and use appropriate paint. Choose whichever color makes you happy!

Your right paint does stick to metal with the 'appropiate paint' hence acid etch primer.

Annie sloane paint is fab - covers everything - no prep

I'm sure Zinsser has a suitable primer for metal that's water based and easy to work with.

Hammerite paint is good on metal but I painted a Matt finished metal bed frame with normal woodwork paint. One house move and 5 years later it still looking goood with only an odd chip (thanks kids)
