New sofa - legs too dark

Starlightgone · 17/01/2025 16:47

So I’ve found the perfect new sofa but there’s no choice of leg colour. The legs are dark wood and I need a mid to light oak effect.
Could I cover them in wood effect vinyl wrap? Any otter (easy) suggestions??
TIA

Why not just buy new legs and swap them?

GingerWineIsGood · 17/01/2025 16:50

Yes - I imagine the screws on the legs are pretty much universal

Husband bought a new sofa for his guitar room and just swapped the legs. Think he bought them from IKEA but you have lots more choice online

oh I didn’t realise I could just swap them! That’d be perfect. But if not possible, any other suggestions?!

wrap them or there is vinyl wood wraps that I've seen people use on their kitchen counters and window sills recently which look fab! 😊 get the sofa!

TheGoddessFreyja · 17/01/2025 16:53

meant swap** (buy new legs)

Starlightgone · 17/01/2025 16:57

@TheGoddessFreyja i was thinking of wrapping them. Not sure how easy as they’re tapered - top wider than bottom…

I think I read that this can invalidate the warranty (so make sure you keep the old legs to screw back in if anything goes wrong 😉)

It will be possible though. Unless it's some antique sofa.

Covering them with vinyl would look terrible.

Thanks for the replies. Anyone else tried vinyl for this?

Paint them.

It might not matter as much as you think it will. Think about friends and family’s sofas. Do you know what colour any of the legs are or if they match?

I’d buy the sofa you want and live with it for a bit before deciding if this is actually a problem.

@usernamesaretoohardtothinkof is so right!
All of the cabinetry in our living room is pale, pale pine whilst the sofa legs are sort of dark teak coloured. I have never even considered that they should match.

But then, we have carpet. Maybe the OP has a mid-oak floor and is trying to match that with her sofa legs.
