Vertical wall beds

Hi. I’m trying to make my spare room more practical and am thinking of installing a bed that folds down from the wall. We very seldom have visitors sleeping over so a bed that takes up most of the room all the time seems silly. Any comments on vertical wall beds and their practicality would be great.

I think I saw one on the latest season of Dreamhome Makover on Netflix that was done beautifully. I think they are called Murphy beds. Like this one:

Yes they are called Murphy beds and I believe need robust anchoring in the wall. We have one but our builder installed extra posts in the wall specifically for it.

Out of interest, are these something you can take with you if you move house, or do they become part of the house itself sort of, due to being built in - if that makes sense?

Ours would be staying. More because our next move would be a serious downsize.

We had one of these from a place called wallbedking ( name sounds terrible but they were very helpful). It was good, freed up a lot of space in a small flat. It's now in our garage awaiting eBay.

I've just had one of these installed from this company www.studybed.co.uk/?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAnKi8BhB0EiwA58DA4bcNyIH8ZlCyTkUkBZ1F_1TiTDKk8Lh5cSXPNZurj45DkEPNK1h78xoC2egQAvD_BwE It's a king size bed so is bolted to the wall. They did the installation. I think you can arrange for them to uninstall and reinstall if you move. I'm really pleased and would definitely recommend

What else are you going to use the room for? You’ll need to keep the footprint clear (or clearable)

SomersetClimber · 17/01/2025 18:41

I’ve got one, it’s brilliant, means I can use the room as an office and playroom as well.

NormalAuntFanny · 17/01/2025 19:41

We have one and it's great, actually just as comfortable as a good bed plus we have all the space in the spare room. Would recommend!

Thanks everyone for your comments. I’ve decided to go for it.
