Has anyone bought an Indian tufted rug from Etsy

I'm on the hunt for a bedroom rug. There are lots of Etsy sellers that offer handmade tufted wool rugs from India. They often use other brands photos for the designs/listings but also have very good reviews with actual customer photos. Has anyone ordered one of these? They are not cheap but obviously a bit cheaper than buying via a regular shop as it's buying directly from the supplier.

I would be very interested to know the outcome of this if you went ahead?. I didn't know they use other brands products in their listings and then, presumably, copy them. Also wondered if there were VAT and customer issues. The supplier has one good review and one bad one

I haven't bought one yet, still not sure if I should. They do look good quality and genuine but still feels a bit iffy. I need a large rug so it would save quite a bit going direct.

I messaged the one I was looking at and he has offered to sent a sample for about £30 - Not done anything yet though. The rug in his picture looks exactly like a really expensive one from The Rug Company but having read your OP, I now think he just nicked one of their photos! Not to say he couldn't create similar but it does seem iffy and I do wonder about unforeseen import charges

I have bought quite a few over the years, from Etsy, from either India or Morocco. They've always been exactly like the photo, they need a bit of time if they have been shipped folded for the creases to come out, not had to pay any kind of customs import taxes or anything. I think they're great personally, but I like traditional kilim rugs!

Yea, I bought a wool Ziegler rug from “AfghanRugsstore” on Etsy. Not cheap but about half what a similar rug would cost in a shop here. It looks exactly like the picture (I don’t think it was a picture taken from elsewhere) and is definitely wool and seems thick and well made… I haven’t inspected it in the detail in that article but might do now!

@LillyLeaf @Pluto46 you can buy your any of rugs whether its custom or any design from this etsy shop very geniune and trusted many users already liked their shop https://www.etsy.com/shop/ArshiyaGlobalRugs

If you have any custom rug design or size in mind, just send a message to the shop seller — they love creating custom rugs.

Hi
I am in the same conundrum. Did anyone buy the rug from Etsy and how was it ? I have seen one on Etsy same as the BOHO one in Nordic Knots but half the price.

@Pluto46 please can you tell me the seller on Etsy doing similar to The Rug Company ?

They seem to be on Ebay now and are called Beyond Rug Crafts - they have this copy on at the moment

read this about tufted rugs before you buy

Thank you for posting this! Really fascinating, and I did not realise that tufted rugs had so many issues!

Not tufted and not Etsy but I bought a large (10x 14 ft) chindi (plaited rag rug) from a Pakistani seller on eBay and it turned up within a month and is still being used in the living room 4 years later. £119 very well spent. No import duties were levied.
