Help me I’m rubbish as design

Just that really - I need help from someone who knows about interior design. I have a garage that I have just converted to a room. I have installed crittal doors in anthracite grey. The room is on the small side and faces north east in direction so is naturally darker that side. I was thinking of using a wall mural with a view of mountains (very subtle) to make the space seem bigger. Looking online it says to use warm colours in a north facing room - however I don’t think they match anthracite grey. My house is currently painted completely off white in every room, as I have no idea about decor. The doors in the picture are like my ones however they look black. My driveway is red bricks. I would really appreciate any help.

What are you planning to use the space for?

Coffeebean987 · 11/01/2025 15:33

It will be an extra living space for the house so for school work and also relaxing- no TV in there.

How about painting the room a soft coral/light pink colour OP? Also add some nice bright artwork.

I'd go for white, with a nice jazzy rug and some brightly coloured curtains.
Some full of colour pictures on the wall too.
I'm into pinks, oranges and blues at the moment.

Do you think pink will work with the grey? I have no colour coordination at all.

Not my taste.

A good decorator will help you decide.

Have a look on the Farrow and Ball website. They have suggestions for colours that go with other colours. So if your anthracite gray is similar to one of theirs they will suggest colours to match.

Or if you have a friend whose house you like maybe ask for some help?

Lots of colours work with grey. Duck egg through to teal, mustard, dusky pink. White could be a bit cold.
I work from the longest lasting most expensive items, flooring or couch or made to order curtains through to things like paint and cushions which can be changed in and out. Usually stick with neutral for the core items.
You could start by identifying the style that appeals to you, mid century, scandi, glittery etc, then google colours for that style. Pinterest very useful for this. You could go to somewhere like JL and look at all the fabrics, if you find a pattern you like it will give you a palette of colours to work from.

Yes! Gentle pinks with heavy greys are a great combination - think plaster pink rather than pastel or baby pink though.
