Sofa recommendations for a bad back?

We’re looking to replace our sofa, the main driving force behind it being my terrible back which has suffered this year. We have a perfectly nice secondhand one but it’s too soft and offers no support really. We’ve never bought a brand new sofa before so no idea where to look. My husband is very tall which always complicated furniture buying too. He’s keen on a recliner sofa, I just need something that’s going to be supportive. I’d love any recommendations or even tips of where to avoid.

My DH is very tall and I am not. Because of our height differences we have two different styles of sofa (but in the same colour) in our Sitting Room. Which doesn’t look too odd.

It is important that when you sit on a sofa that the height and depth of your sofa allow your feet to rest flat on the floor with your knees comfortably around the seat edge (but they will explain this in the show room). My DH’s sofa is firmer and reclines (mine is more squishy as I like to lay on it and don’t have any back problems). I think if you have back problems you are meant to go for higher arm rests, but we didn’t.

Good Luck!

You might be better with an armchair that is very supportive and right for you.

GPlan? Don’t go for stressless, they’re not as comfortable as they look.
