Help! Living room layout.

Please can anyone help with our living room layout. Picture attached. Grey rectangles are our current sofas. Blue rectangle is a window that isn’t on the floor plan. Red rectangles are radiators. Orange circle is the fireplace.

We don’t currently have a TV but we are getting one. I hate them being the focal point of the room but I am resigned to it being mostly unavoidable. I can’t figure out a way for the room to flow well because of the two doors. The door by the fireplace goes into the playroom.

Smaller sofa definitely needs replacing and we could also replace the bigger sofa. Nosing at other houses with the same floor plan most people have the TV to the left of the chimney breast or on the wall where are smaller sofa is. Then have chairs or another sofa with the back to the bay window. But it feels awkward with the door from the hallway.

Any ideas welcome!

I'd put the sofa next to the door by the fireplace across the window bay, which would widen the room and make it feel less like a dentist's waiting room. This would let you put the television where the sofa was, which will leave the fireplace as more of a focal point.

Through rooms are a bugger. We once had a flat where the living room had three doors and an open archway to the hall, so I feel your pain.

Could you hang the door to the stairs the other way so if the sofa is opposite the fireplace, the door doesn't open onto it?

I think sofa moving to opposite the fireplace is probably the best configuration. I also wondered whether an L shaped sofa would work but that would make an odd corridor between the back of the sofa and the window. Then I wouldn’t know what to put in the corner behind it.

Hanging the door the other way is exactly the kind of genius idea I was hoping for! I would never have thought of that.

Another vote for sofa under the window. Could you put tv above the fireplace?
