Beds are too short!

We’ve swapped our super king bed, 6’6” long , for two small doubles, because my hubbie often kicked me when asleep - accidentally …..or so he claims! Lol. However, the new beds are too short and I can’t get longer ones unless I want them custom built at horrendous prices.
So we’re stuck with 6’ long divan bases and his nib’s feet are hanging over the end, enter constant moaning. I can get longer mattresses at a price, and I can extend a duvet by cutting up a donor duvet, same with duvet cover, but has anyone had to extend a divan base before? My idea is to add a 6” platform to the top end, less weight bearing, but I think we’ll have to get it made and then I’ll buy some velvet fabric as close to the bed as possible. Before I go to all this trouble has anyone done this before please?

Can you pull the mattress away from the headboard so it overhangs at the foot end? I did this for our tall son and it worked well for him. I filled the gap at the headboard with a bolster.

Put an ottoman at the bottom of the bed. Use a decent pillow & case on top of it for comfort & if a bit extra height needed. Use a kingsize duvet & cover.

I've done exactly what you suggesting. I'be added a diy platform at the top end of my bed. I'm not particularly tall but but I like a lot of pillows at the top of the bed and to sleep propped up for medical reasons. I was fed up of my feet extending further than the bed.

I had some contiboard in the garage and just used some angle brackets to create the shape then screwed it to the floorboards for stability. For years I've used a staple gun to create a valance on my bed to match my decor so I just extended that idea. If you went into my bedroom you won't notice anything different.

Should say, I've added a foot to my bed and used velvet fabric to cover the bed base extension part. An electric staple gun is really very cheap and easy to use. I have used a pale blue velvet fabric that matches my decor.
