To paint already dark room

I am thinking about painting our living room, its north facing with fairly low ceilings so quite dark throughout the day. Would it be a bad idea to paint it a dark colour? It's currently off white and has been that way since we moved in but would like to add some colour throughout the house.

Colours can be so many things - dark rich, dark warm, dark cold, dark bright.
What colours are you considering?
Also you could have one dark wall others lighter but toning, or contrasting- so many options.
But dark can be hugely atmospheric and elevated by cushions, rugs etc.

@heldinadream oh God to be honest I am really clueless when it comes to paint so really don't even know where to start. I know i like blue Hague by farrow and ball

Apparently darker can be better in naturally dark rooms, because white / light makes the shadows more obvious and makes it feel darker … but I’m rubbish at this and it’s just something I’ve read !

We need to paint our living room - currently concrete floors and bare plaster. Low ceiling. Wood burner. No windows as it’s extended - it was a dark room before the extension and it’s the same now.

It’s never going to be a bright, light space. So I’m thinking we should lean into its natural features and look to create a cosy, atmospheric space instead. I’m drawn to rich greens. I have blues in my kitchen/diner so want something different.

That’s as far as I’ve got with planning though 😂

Hague blue is lovely! Have you had a good look at the inspiration pics for it on the F&B website? Lots of lighter and brighter colours that you can use with it - yellows and mustard, pinks and reds, paler blues, light greens.
Are you thinking of the whole room in Hague or just one wall or just the walls with a lighter ceiling?
