Are these too small?

I thought I was quite happy with these prints, but scrolling through IG now, I've see some photos where the prints are much bigger and I'm wondering now if mine are out of proportion and that I should have gone for bigger?

Ones I've seen are spaced closer together too, but then I think that will look even smaller.

Does this look okay or should I start again?

Stand nearer and they will look bigger. HTH

I think they look great. I like the decor in your room generally. It's lovely.

Nannyfannybanny · 31/10/2024 21:16

Higher up the wall, closer together and stepped.

Please don’t-stepped looks totally naff and very 1990s, and there’s no more heinous a crime with pictures than hanging them too high!

At the most I’d maybe put them a smidge closer together, but they look great and the proportions are good

LaPalmaLlama · 31/10/2024 21:24

Height looks about right- eye level ish. I might have framed them with a narrower mount but honestly, they look good as is.

AnOldCynic · 31/10/2024 21:26

I think that wall could stand much larger prints. Or even one big one. And not necessarily central but further away from the tv. And a nice big houseplant or two at floor level near the tv. Anywhere else in the room they could go?

ForPearlViper · 31/10/2024 21:26

I think they are too small for the wall and the gaps are too wide so they look they are floating in the pace.

You could either put them on a smaller where they look in smaller space and get bigger art for that wall or get more pictures of the same size so you can have a bigger group on that wall.

DitzyDerbyBabe86 · 31/10/2024 21:27

I think they look great. Leave them as they are ❤️

thesquint · 31/10/2024 21:35

Thank you all.

There's nowhere else for them to go in this room, as I'm not sure how I'd put them on the opposite wall due to the alcove there. And there's a shelf on the wall above the other sofa.

But I could put them in my bedroom (although the wall is similar size) or split them and put them in my hall.

I do have a plant on the other side of my tv. It's seen better days and a replacement is on the list! I'm thinking I need to go for artificial Blush

Noooo! That would be so very naff. Stepped pictures, high up? Straight from the 70s.

I think they’re too small, OP. They might look better on a picture ledge?

KnickerlessParsons · 31/10/2024 21:46

Are they small? Or are they far away?

Haha!
Like that Father Ted episode with the cows - these are small, those are far away.

SilverChampagne · 31/10/2024 21:50

Oh, x post

TentEntWenTyfOur · 31/10/2024 22:17

They are just under an inch too low, and should be a fraction closer together.

I like the colour of the paint on the wall btw.

Nannyfannybanny · 02/11/2024 10:25

Well,we all have different opinions. We didn't have stepped pictures like this in the 70s,if you had any art it was the crying boy,or the Asian lady with the pink orchids. I've had the same pictures for years, black and white copies of photos by a famous photographer,of capital cities around the world. I hate the idea of having your wedding photos or kids in the living room.

Or The Haywain - don't forget The Haywain!

BookishType · 02/11/2024 13:05

Or The Haywain - don't forget The Haywain! My parents had a Haywain in their dining room for years!

In the 80s, my friend’s parents had that print of a naked couple where the man is on the wing of a giant swan.

Even as a young child, I knew it was laughably awful.

Pictures can look nice in a row on a shelf if there's space.

PS I'm looking at my previous post in horror - don't post in haste or you'll end up with something pretty senseless too.

LaPalmaLlama · 02/11/2024 13:40

We had Sunflowers. It wasn't until I saw a TV news story about the real one that I realised it was a famous painting and ours was just a copy :-)

Morven7 · 02/11/2024 13:41

Way too small imo

Baxterbaxter · 05/11/2024 11:26

@thesquint I agree, I think bigger (A3 / A2) would fill the space better.

As a side note, please can I ask what colour paint you used? I’m looking to go BOLD and get a similar couch to you so need something strong! It’s a lovely looking room btw!

MulberryPeony · 05/11/2024 12:57

You could keep the prints and get much larger frames and mounts?

Hi @Baxterbaxter and thank you Smile

These are A3 in A2 frame.

To be honest, the more I look at that photo and then at my walls, I feel the photo makes them look more out of proportion than they are, and I'll probably stick with them as they are for now. Other things to prioritise... like a lampshade and cushions Grin

I didn't pick this paint, it was already here. But I know that it's B&Q Good Home as the pervious owners left some. The shade is Antibes. I thought I wanted to change it originally, but I've learned to love it for now and work round it.

It can be quite different depending on lighting so here's another where it's darker.

You get a better perspective of size from your second photo. I think they work fine, although I’m no interior designer ☺️

KnigCnut · 05/11/2024 18:32

They look too low to me. I would want them aligned with the top of the door panels. But then, I would also be rehanging the door so it opened against the wall, which would make me really annoyed with whoever put the radiator there, so I may not be the best person to advise! 😳
