Am stuck on redecorating my stairwell. Remove or keep carpet? What bannister type? Pendant light?any ideas or good sources of pictures?

Depends, do you have pets or small children that could slip on bare wood? You could have a runner up the middle so you have both carpet and bare wood.
Glass bannisters are nice but nightmare to keep clean! If you have wooden you can paint it different colours for a different look.
