Help! Really poor sealant between worktop and upstand

Any DIY angels here?

Feel so embarrassed ๐Ÿ˜ž

New kitchen and upstand looks like itโ€™s stuck on with wet sellotape. Kitchen fitter says he used the best stuff. Howdens say thatโ€™s what they recommend and donโ€™t know why it looks so crap. Itโ€™s meant to be transparent but looks almost white.

Any ideas for how to make it look better? Should we rip it off? Will that risk damaging the worktop?

thanks so much for any thoughts

If you rip it off you won't damage the worktop. That is just how clear silicone looks though. I don't think they have done a bad job. I think it's why people normally have tiles rather than an upstand with laminate?
You might be able to get a pale brown silicone but I think it would just look more obvious?

I can't even see what the problem is. Looks absolutely fine to me.

I don't even know what an upstanding is but I've got some cigar silicone in my kitchen and it looks like that.

That looks exactly how I'd expect it to look. Clear silicone isn't invisible. You could try removing it but you'll need to consider another wall covering and consider how you feel about white silicone, it maybe won't look so obvious with a white grout. I also think you will notice this less as time goes on - I've been where you are - just spent a lot of money on something new and expecting it to be perfect - it's hard when the reality is that it can't be.
