Would like to be able to sit up in bed and read or whatever. So high, comfy, padded. These cost £1000+ in John Lewis!

Where can I go for a quality item at a more realistic price?

Your link isn’t working

It wasn't meant to be a link - MN made it into one

You said ‘these cost’ , so I assumed you were linking.

They do their own on TV, with wadding, fabric and a staple gun.

Exactly this.
It would be simple to get a piece of foam cut and cover it with a fabric of your choice either sewing or glueing it.
Then, add some ties, put a rod on the wall, and attach.

Look at Etsy.

Nice suggestion if you have time and are inclined. Simple it may be, quick it would not be, so don't feel bad if you decide to shell out £80 for one that's already done.
