Nicer pine doors?

Justmyramblings · 05/10/2024 19:52

We are looking to replace damaged pine doors in our house. (Would prefer oak & modern oak doors but current wooden facings/surrounds are pine, so stuck with pine.)
Any ideas where to find a pine door that is NOT 4 panelled (see photo2) or 1/2 swing stable style?
Would prefer something like the oak door in photo1. Thanks!

What do you mean by wood facings and surrounds? Do you mean the architrave is pine?

If so, paint the architrave and skirting boards and have your oak doors.

I have mdf skirting and some shit timber architrave which are painted and oak doors. Looks great.

What 'era' is your house?
Personally, if it were Victorian, I would put in Victorian doors, or a similar style.(4 panel)
If it is a 30's house I would put in that type (I think that's called '1 over 3').
But that's me, and I tend to think proportions and style are intertwined, like Arts and Crafts.

20 yr old house, bungalow. Love the house & views but dislike the doors. We are ok with the wood varnished architrave (never knew the correct wood till this thread😀) as it has a bit of shape and design to it. Like the wood colour ok, antique pine as when we bought the house, we wouldn't bother with the faff of priming/painting each section etc. Can't replace architrave as too pricey & too big a decorating job.
It's just something about the 4 big panels on each door and the naff, swirly patterned brass handles (some broken as just cheap design) I dislike. If nicer, sleeker, doors were available, I'd happily varnish and add door handles that look nice (that actually work!) and live with it.
I've looked online but can only really see the same 4 panel doors.

Ps. Thanks for replying. I'm new to MN & to replying on the App. Not sure how to reply to individuals, so thanks!😀

@GrampianGirl You are a super star, thank you! This is just the kind of style I'm after👏🏻 (I'd lost the will after searching and repeatedly finding the 4 panelled style). Now happily imagining swapping all doors and, best of all, ditching our crappy brass oldie-worldie handles for something nicer! 😀
First shoutout on MN & such a good response!

You're welcome, @Justmyramblings . I have cheap 4 panel pine doors and have painted some of them.

Another MN tip, if you post a link, it usually includes an image. Click the dustbin icon to remove it, unless you actually want to include it.
