I got my flat painted, new sofa, rugs and other furniture, so had to change the curtains too as the ones I have no longer fits with the new decor
But I’m struggling and have bought and returned loads.
I don’t want to do custom made in case I don’t like it and can’t return and I don’t like blinds.

Anyway, my latest attempt are the ones in the pics. Hope it works. And it will be there all seasons.

I now also found a cute Orla Kiely sugar bowl, mugs and all kinds of things (I’m re-doing my kitchen too)

I never had anything O.K before, is it super past now? Apparently loads of people still buying its stuff from JL.

I’m usually not bothered by ppl’s opinions and hardly receive any visitors, so if the curtains make me happy when they arrive on Monday, I will keep it. I’m so tired of looking and looking for curtains within my budget and I have two walls to cover (two opposit side are windows, one taking up the whole wall leading to a balcony so full lenght and the other takes the whole wall but is half lenght)

Just curious what other MN’s thoughts and opinions about Orla Kiely. It gives beach/holidays vibes to me rather than city but I hope it works.

I really like both of those OP. They are stylish, lovely colours, and calming and won't overwhelm anything else you do with the room.
Great choices IMHO.

Theonewhogotaway · 05/10/2024 16:32

I find it a bit dated and ubiquitous op , a bit like magnolia paint or brown shiny leather sofas. But it doesn’t matter all that matters is you like it.

PickAChew · 05/10/2024 16:32

They're lovely, timeless designs and, if they make you happy, go for them. It's the sort of thing you keep for a fair few years, rather than changing with each new fad so you might as well enjoy it.

I had been considering some for my front room but the blue is a little too bright for it.

theemptinessmachine · 05/10/2024 16:33

I really like the colours and print. Not as obviously OK as some.

Boydylannumber1 · 05/10/2024 16:34

Don't have curtains but have Orla K duvet, and several kitchen cannisters for coffee etc and mugs and candle holders . Excellent quality. Have some bags and purses too. I love Ok.. I dont know if it's gone out, i.just liove her stuff, i do think if you had a lot of things it might look ott. If you like the curtains just go for it

ramonaquimby · 05/10/2024 16:34

I disagree, they are quintessentially OK designs! But they are lovely, I'm still a fan of her designs

Netcam · 05/10/2024 16:53

I think they're lovely, it's not like you're wearing them, it's about colour and pattern. We have Orla Kiely lampshades and cushion covers in the living room. And Orla Kiely curtains and bedside lamps in the bedroom. I had to stop myself going all out and limit it to a few items per room! So we've mixed them with some other geometric type prints. I think they really brighten the room up and look fun. I don't care if they're fashionable or not.

standardmum · 06/10/2024 09:11

I got fed up of the curtains pretty quickly but still have a couple of cushions. I found the curtains a bit overpowering after a while and personally prefer something a bit more versatile

I have a gorgeous OK bag. I think when things are everywhere they become less desirable <fickle> I'd probably stick to accents for homeware rather than wall paper/ curtains

Motnight · 06/10/2024 10:47

I love OK. Had the most beautiful OK jug which I broke. Have also got a rucksack and a handbag and a few other things. I would love to have an OK rug and curtains but my DH really doesn't like her designs.

I’m not sure it’s fickle.. that pattern became hugely popular in the early 2000’s. It was everywhere, curtains, rugs, bags, bedding, homeware, clothes. And then it became very low cost. I’m sure she made a fortune from it, but it reduced its desireability.

like magnolia, or grey or Burberry or shiny brown leather sofas. It was a major trend 2 decades ago.

its odd. We see it time and time again, people follow trends, until something becomes totally ubiquitous, you see it everywhere. and thus it’s perceived as cheap, as there is no uniqueness or originality. Burberry is a similar issue.albeitj for different reasons. You saw it everywhere. So it stopped being popular.

RandomMess · 06/10/2024 11:19

I have curtains that are OK inspired and love them but I have a 1960s house so it works.

HappyDane · 06/10/2024 11:24

It's definitely dated in a way, because it was absolutely ubiquitous at one point.

But it's also timeless in that it will always look good if you do it well.

Best not to furnish with trends in mind, just do what makes you happy.

One thing though, are you planning to have both sets of curtains pictured above? I'm not sure I would do that, personally. I'd probably have one block colour (navy would be nice) and one patterned.

Phase2 · 06/10/2024 11:39

@Theonewhogotaway you're right maybe I mean more I feel shallow? I used to love Viv Westwood and have a load of expensive scarves and then I saw the Argos toaster and my love for it was killed dead.

hattie43 · 06/10/2024 11:40

I like OK stuff , I like colour and pattern and personally wouldn't care if it's not others taste .

You are right
I think chances are I will keep the one with more white in it as it will go well where I want it to be and chances are on the other side I can keep what I have now, or some other that I bought but have not returned yet

I love OK, I don't care if it's a bit past it, I have OK mugs and several long sleeved tee shirts, I love the vibrant colours.
