Navy & red living room thoughts

I have a red traditional patterned rug , and a red armchair. This is teamed with a beige/taupe colour sofa at the moment. I am going to replace this sofa with a navy one. I was going to keep the rug and the armchair, and tie it together with cushions that have the colours of the room in.

Will this look okay? I am just so sick of beige, and grey sofas. The colours in the sofa I want are only available in a bright beige, light grey, black and the navy which we like the best. There isn't a huge selection.

Navy yes red no I think navy and cream would go better together but it's your house

ReallyNotsobad · 28/09/2024 14:25

Forgot to say my walls are a light and neutral colour which we will keep, as to not make the room too dark.

Thanks, I dislike cream, it reminds me of my dms house. She has everything cream, beige, I'm trying to break away from it.

Honestly if you like it, that’s all that matters! You’re the one living there and your space has to make you happy.
It sounds lovely to me.

The red in question isn't a bright in your face pillar box red, it is more of a crimson if that makes sense. This is the shade of navy I am meaning too.

I'm a fan of bold colours, also this isn't a common choice, so that's really refreshing. Do you have a pic of the colours you're going for? The only thing that would put me off is it could be a bit flag waving, but that might be right up your street!

Thank you so much. I know it sounds so dark, but we have light natural walls, and unit. It would just be the main sofa in the navy above, then the large crimson armchair. I was thinking some cushions with a little navy and red in, and then some plain more neutral ones as to not be too dark.

This is the shade of red, and the shade of navy. It isn't the sofa style we would be getting, but it is the same fabric and navy shade. We have white neutral unit, and natural light walls. Our rug is a traditional pattern and the same kind of red as the armchair, if that makes sense. I was going to get a colour of cushions to tie in the two colours, and keep the rest of the room quite light.
Hopefully not flag like! 😂

I think it works. It's not Union Jack colours. I've got a room in Inchyra Blue with some chests of drawers in a cranberry/raspberry type shade. Think it was called Summer Pudding.

dudsville · 28/09/2024 15:07

Those colours are fab, rich tones. Love it!

ReallyNotsobad · 28/09/2024 15:10

Thank you!! I love colour, and I'm gradually introducing it more into what was a very boring beige/buttermilk house. When we saw the colour swatches I was looking for a very light oatmeal safe colour at first, then me and dh both saw the navy, and preferred that out of the ones available. I love our chair, the kids sit in it all of the time, and I don't want to get rid of it. I was hoping to not have to replace the rug either if can help it. Hoping a couple of of cushions to tie in the tones may be all we need.

I had a navy, red and off white living room - like you it was designed around a Persian rug and navy sofas. I loved it.

PrimalLass · 28/09/2024 15:55

I painted the chimney breast Ruby Starlet from Dulux.

SequinBear · 04/10/2024 19:09

I think it sounds lovely.

It makes me think of this picture that's been floating around a few other threads on here recently.

(Appreciate you're not talking about dark blue walls and that this isn't exactly the same, but I love how the colours go together)

SequinBear · 04/10/2024 19:10

Sorry, don't think it worked

Thank you @SequinBear I love that room, and the wall colour! I am just so bored of plain uninspiring colours, or lack of them. Colourful always looks so amazing when it is done by professionals. I just hope my version doesn't look a bit rubbish! 😂

I think that would work really well, especially if you can get some cushions that have a pattern which goes well on both the sofa and the chair. That will then tie them together.

JaninaDuszejko · 04/10/2024 19:38

I think the colours go well together. However, I think it will depend on the rug. Is there any blue in the design at all (as there is in the picture above)? If so super, if not then maybe either think about a colour in the rug or change the rug.
